Claims Support & Risk Advice

We help our clients reduce the risk of a claim and stand with them through it when one comes

Have you become aware of an incident?

If something has happened that could lead to a claim, complaint, dispute or mistake, don’t wait to see how it develops. The earlier we’re involved, the more we can do. Tell us what’s happened and we’ll guide you through the next steps, even if you’re not yet our client.

Claims Support

When a claim is notified, most brokers step back and leave you to deal with the insurer. We work the other way. About half of what we do is managing claims and we treat it as the most important work we do, because a claim is the moment a policy either proves its worth or doesn’t.

We help you notify correctly

How and when a claim or circumstance is notified can affect whether the policy responds at all. We make sure it’s done properly.

We stay in the room

We work directly with your lawyers on defence strategy, sit in on the calls that matter and keep you informed at every stage.

We help you choose your defence

You’re not limited to the insurer’s preferred lawyers. We help you select counsel you trust and where it helps, we can do that in advance, at renewal, so you’re not scrambling later.

We see it through

We stay across the case until it’s resolved, however long that takes.

Risk Advice

The best claim is the one that never happens. Risk advice is the proactive side of what we do, the work that happens before a claim, to reduce the chance of one and to make sure that if something does go wrong, you’re properly protected.

We pressure-test your contracts

The agreements you sign with your own clients shape your liability. We review them, flag where the risk sits and where it helps, refer you for legal advice to redraft them.

We map your exposures

We work through where claims are most likely to come from in your business and structure your cover around that, not a generic template.

We plan for change

Businesses change, new services, new clients, new jurisdictions, winding down. We stay across those changes and adjust your cover before a gap opens up.

Why Telling Us Early Matters

One of the most common reasons a policy fails to respond is late notification. Professional indemnity and similar policies are claims-made, they respond to claims and circumstances notified during the policy period. If you become aware of an incident that could give rise to a claim and don’t notify it, you can lose the right to cover for it entirely, even if the policy was in place when it happened.

That’s why the single most valuable thing you can do is tell us early, as soon as you’re aware something might become a problem. You don’t need to be certain. You don’t need all the details. You just need to pick up the phone.

Claims Work, In Practice

A business owner came to us after selling their company. The corporate adviser who’d worked on the sale was now pursuing them for a substantial success fee they didn’t believe was owed, a dispute that could have cost them hundreds of thousands in legal fees alone.

They didn’t know that insurance could respond to a dispute like this. Most people wouldn’t. It took us two months of working with the insurer to confirm the cover applied, but it did and the policy responded to the legal costs of defending the matter. The premium on that policy had been a few thousand dollars.

That’s the work. Not just placing a policy, but knowing what a policy can do and staying in the matter until it’s resolved. Every claim turns on its own facts and policy wording. Outcomes will vary.

Talk to a senior broker

Whether you’re facing a claim now or want to reduce the chance of one later, you’ll speak to a senior specialist, not a call centre or quote bot. We’ll tell you honestly what we can do and what your options are.

Common questions about claims and risk advice

Contact us as soon as you become aware of an incident that could give rise to a claim, a complaint, a dispute, an error, anything that feels like it might escalate. You don’t need to be certain or have all the details. Early notification protects your right to cover; waiting can put it at risk.

A claim is a formal demand made against you. A circumstance is something that hasn’t become a formal claim yet but could, an incident, a complaint, a warning sign. Both can and often should be notified to your insurer. Knowing which is which and how to notify each, is part of what we help with.

Yes. We help businesses through claims even where we didn’t place the original cover. If you’re in the middle of something and not getting the support you need, talk to us.

Not necessarily, and notifying correctly is almost always better than not notifying. The risk of staying quiet, losing cover for the matter entirely, is usually far greater than any premium impact. We’ll talk you through it honestly.

We work alongside them. We’re not lawyers, we’re your broker, but we coordinate closely with your legal team on strategy and we can help you select counsel you trust rather than defaulting to the insurer’s panel.

Run-off cover protects you for past work after you’ve stopped trading, sold the business, retired, wound down. Because claims can arrive years after the work was done, stopping your cover when you stop working can leave you exposed. We advise on whether you need it and how to structure it.
