Management & Professional Risk Insurance

Cover for professionals and businesses whose risk doesn’t fit a standard policy

Management and professional risk is the suite of cover that protects the business when something doesn’t go to plan, a dispute, a regulatory matter, a breach or an allegation against a director or officer. We structure that cover deliberately, around the specific exposures of each business we work with, not off a standard template.

Our Services

How we work with you

Every engagement is different, but the shape of the work is consistent. Here’s what to expect from first contact to policies in place.

01

Introduction

A first conversation to understand your business, your current cover and what’s brought you to us. We use it to decide if we’re the right broker for your situation and we’ll tell you honestly if we’re not.

02

Needs analysis and capability validation

We work through your specific exposures in detail, your contracts, your client base, your regulatory environment. This usually means meeting you on site or wherever the business runs, because the right cover comes from seeing how things work.

03

Data capture and expectations

We collect the information needed to go to market, set clear expectations on next steps and confirm a timeline, typically two to three weeks to indicative terms.

04

Summary report

We issue a written summary of what we’ve found, where the gaps and opportunities sit and what we recommend taking to market.

05

Discussion and
decisions

We walk through the report with you. You decide the direction, we document the brief and we agree the approach before going to market.

06

Placement and negotiation

We complete the terms with underwriters, negotiating wording, limits, deductibles and structure directly with the people making the underwriting decisions.

07

Documentation and policies

We issue documentation, invoices and policies. You have everything you need in writing, with clear records of what’s been placed and on what terms.

08

Ongoing claims and review

We stay across your business between renewals, handling claims, managing mid-term changes and keeping you informed on market shifts that affect your cover.

Renewals are where most brokers
stop thinking, we don’t

A renewal is the moment to look at the cover seriously, not to roll it over. Our renewal process starts well before the policy is due, we review the year’s claims activity, reassess the business’s exposures, pressure-test the wording against any changes in your operations and rebuild the brief if needed. Only then do we go back to market and only with underwriters who write this class of business properly.

Already in the middle of a claim, or worried one’s coming?

Placing the right cover is the start of the work, not the end. If a claim has been notified or you’re worried about something brewing, our claims support team is built around guiding clients through the process, including clients we haven’t placed cover for.

Talk to a specialist team

When you contact Indemnity PRO, you speak to a senior insurance specialist, not a call centre or quote bot. We’ll take the time to understand your situation and tell you within one conversation whether we’re the right broker for it.

Common questions about management and professional risk insurance

If your work involves giving advice, delivering professional services or making decisions that clients rely on, you almost certainly need professional indemnity insurance. It’s required by some industries as a condition of practice (law, accounting, engineering, financial advice) and required by many client contracts. Even where it’s not mandated, a single claim without cover can be enough to close a business. We’ll tell you straight whether you need it based on your actual situation.

Public liability covers third-party injury or property damage arising from your work or premises, someone tripping in your office or your work causing physical damage. Professional indemnity covers the advice and services you provide, financial loss a client suffers because of something you advised, designed or delivered. Most professional services businesses need both and they respond to different kinds of claims.

Personal protection for directors and officers against allegations of wrongful acts, mismanagement, breach of duty, regulatory investigations, employment practices claims and the legal costs of defending those allegations. It protects directors personally, separately from any cover the business itself holds. For private companies, it’s often bundled into a management liability policy; for larger or listed companies, it’s usually placed as standalone D&O.

It depends on the industry, the revenue, the scope of work, the limit of cover required and the business’s claims history. We’ll give you an indicative figure after the first conversation, not after a long form.

Professional indemnity is a claims-made policy, which means it only responds to claims notified during the policy period, not claims arising from work done during the policy period. So the policy has to be in place when the claim is notified, even if the work was done years earlier. That makes how the policy is structured at placement and how it’s maintained through renewals, the thing that decides whether it responds when you need it to. It’s also why cancelling or letting PI lapse is so risky.

You contact us as soon as you become aware of an incident that could give rise to a claim, even if no formal claim has been made yet. We help you notify the insurer correctly (which can affect whether the policy responds), work directly with your lawyers and stay across the case until it’s resolved. About half of our work is managing claims and we don’t hand clients off to the insurer to fend for themselves.

Both. We work with businesses placing cover for the first time, businesses changing brokers and businesses needing a second opinion on their existing program. The first conversation is the same in all three cases, we work out whether we’re the right broker for your situation and tell you honestly if we’re not.

For a straightforward placement, typically two to three weeks from data capture to bound cover. For complex risks, multi-jurisdictional cover, hard-to-place industries or significant exposures, it can take longer because we’ll be negotiating directly with underwriters rather than accepting standard terms. We’ll give you a realistic timeline at the start, not an optimistic one.
